midwest current

Midwest Current is a prototype midwest travel/culture magazine and website. Published by Northwestern University's fall 2007 graduate magazine publishing class, creation included a full color, 56-page magazine, Web site and media kit; accompanied with audience research, advertising, marketing, and business planning. The project culminated with a full presentation to Meredith Corporation.

Published in the prototype are these illustrations.

For the web site I produced a slideshow piece about Yellow Springs and it's brush with the closing of Antioch College. Read Yellow Springs Eternal.

The original illustrations and crude paper accent a feature story (which I titled) that was told as if it were an explorer's tattered journal, found lost, full with her notes and sketches of a strange land and it's odd creatures. Only it's the American Girl store in Chicago, and dolls.

Sometimes you need to illustrate the strata of a chili-mac. Incidentally, I also wrote the story.

Map illustration created to detail location of kayaking trip.

Within Midwest Current's front of the book pages were small items at the bottom called "Fast Facts". MC readers are curious and appreciate history, so each fact represented a little nugget relating to the article's subject. To the right are a few of the many FF illustrations I completed.

A separate illustration of Robert Owen, completed for a feature story.
